Phnom Penh, April 30, 2010 :
Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development (LASED), a project implemented by the National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development (NCDD) aiming to support the government’s policy in allocating public land to poor families, organized an orientation workshop on April 29, 2010. The workshop was conducted to present its achievements, challenges and action plan for 2010.  

Base on the project reports, so far 4770.22 hectares of the land were provided to 771 poor families (525 families are in Kratie province and 246 families are in Kampong Cham province). Further more, Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development project implementers are on the way of implementing component 2 -- providing some necessary rural development services and “food for work” support to the poor families just received the land, the project report said.

Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development project is being implemented as pilot projects in Kratie, Kampong Cham, and Kampong Thom. In this regard, the targeted 10.000 hectare-land in 20 communes in the three provinces will be allocated to the poor people. These pilot projects are supporting the social land concession program which initiated by commune sangkat councils, with technical assistance from national LASED team work, provincial LASED team work, and district LASED team work. In the 5-year plan (2008-2013), the program has the total budget of 15 million US.

Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development project contributes to the implementation of the social land concession program (government’s sub-degree no.19, year 2003) aiming to land to the people who have less land or the people who have no land, so that they can build house or household economic activities.
