In the cooperation with European Union and the National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development (NCDD), European Union had announced its project launching, Strengthening Performance, Accountability and Civic Engagement (SPACE) project. The opening ceremony of the project was held on 27 of May, 2010 at InterContinental Hotel under the honorary of H.E Sak Setha, Secretary of State, Ministry of Interior, Mrs. Asplund EVA, European Union representative, and Mrs. Katharina Hubner, GTZ representative.
The purpose of the project is to support the government’s National Program for Sub-national Democratic Development through supporting the national-level government and sub-national government to set up the better institution structure, legality and capacity in the work implementation with accountability and effective responsiveness.
In this regard, European Union granted a total fund of 3.880.000 Euro. Of which, (Euro 1.500.000) is from European delegation, (Euro 1.110.000) from Germany, (Euro 930.000) from Sweden, and (Euro 880.000) from Great Britain for the SPACE project operation.
Mrs. Katharina Hubner said in the opening ceremony that the support of development partners to the project is focusing on supporting and establishing conditions for sub-national government to be more responsive to citizens.
The cooperation from the line ministries and the related authorities will push the project fruitful and workable in other provinces in the kingdom, H.E Sak Setha expressed in the opening ceremony. The NCDD Secreteriate and all the sub-national authorities hope to learn more experience from SPACE project implementation regarding accountability and civic engagement, he added.
